ABILENE, Texas – Ruff Riders quarterback Quincy Carter was picked up by police Sunday night in Abilene on a warrant out of Dallas County for violation of probation, according to records at the Taylor County Jail.

The former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys immediately bonded out and spent no time in jail.

He was on probation because of a marijuana possession charge from 2006 in Dallas County.  Then violated it in February when he was arrested for DUI in Mission, Texas.

"This is something that I knew was coming up," Carter said.  "It was unfortunate the measures police took to handle this (...) Hopefully I can put all this behind me."

Carter's DUI arrest came two weeks prior to his signing with the Abilene Ruff Riders. 

"He's been really good out here keeping himself clean and being on the straight and narrow," Ruff riders GM Barney Welch said.  "This affects in no way Quincy and his career here with us."

Carter was also arrested for marijuana possession in Shreveport in October 2007, while playing in the AF2 for the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings.  He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to six months' unsupervised probation and fined $300.

Carter guided the Cowboys to a 10-6 record and the playoffs in 2003.  He was released in training camp before the 2004 season.
