Reported by: Sam Nichols Friday, May 22, 2009 @07:48pm CDT This holiday weekend, the lakes in Texas will be full of families enjoying boating, fishing, and skiing.
If you haven't been on the lake recently, it might be time for a quick refresher course on Texas boating regulations. In this week's On the Range, Sam Nichols has some boating safety reminders. Game warden, Steve Medford reminds boaters that they must have a life-jacket on-board for everyone on the boat. If the boat is 16 feet or over, there must be a throw-able device on board. Also, Medford warns boaters to watch alcohol consumption because they will be looking for it due to a record number of fatalities in the last year. Boaters must also make certain that have a horn or whistle on the boat in case of an emergency. If you have any questions on boating regulations in Texas, contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. |
