TAP INTO THE TECHNOLOGY TREND – BECOME A FAN OF ABILENE 

Close to 2,000 people are getting the inside scoop about Abilene events by simply logging into their Facebook account. The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau tapped into the trend approximately three weeks ago by creating an online hub for locals and visitors who crave information about upcoming events in the city.  The Facebook fan page is designed to promote the many discoveries our community has to offer: attractions, activities, exhibits and other exciting venues. The page’s fans consist of current and former residents, as well as university students who all share fond memories of the city.

Becoming a fan is easy; all you have to do is log-on to www.facebook.com and create an account (if you haven’t done so already!). Then, simply search for “Abilene, Texas” by using the Facebook Search Tool. Once you see the Abilene logo in your search results, click the logo or the name and open the page. Now, become a fan with a click of your mouse! When you “Become a Fan,” the Abilene logo will appear on your profile page and your name will appear in the news feed. In turn, you will motivate friends to become a fan, which will inform them on happenings in Abilene.

Once you become a fan, explore everything that Abilene offers. The “Attractions Photo Album” includes a brief description of each venue, location, hours of operation and contact information for both locals and visitors. The page creates a great community vibe through its “wall,” where fans can share their own experiences, events, pictures and videos of Abilene with visitors and other locals.

As a fan, you will receive updates on your “news feed” about upcoming events and other promotions. Sending a message, creating an event and updating the page’s status are all ways we hope to disseminate information and engage many different age groups through exciting events that otherwise they may have not known about.

The fan page has already sparked an interest in visitors to make the trip out to Abilene. This past week, the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a special giveaway directly from Abilene’s page. The ACVB provided fans with an “Abilene Trivia Question” and all they had to do was be the first to respond with the correct answer to the question. There were two fans that made their posts at the exact same time, one from Mississippi and one from San Angelo and won a set of Roundup Passes. Both visitors state that they plan to make a visit within the year.
