Reported by: Sam Nichols Friday, Aug 14, 2009 @05:50pm CDT Taking a hobby and turning it into both a career and a way to help others; that's the story of George and Lindsey Colvin, who make unique furniture, and make a difference in the Abilene community.
George Colvin was a star punter for McMurry University, and was hoping for an opportunity to play in the NFL. When that didn't work out, his wife Lindsey was his inspiration for a new career. George had always like working with wood, and Lindsey encouraged him to make some furniture for their home. This was the beginning of George and Lindsey's family businesses, Colvin Custom Creations and Neverland Theme Beds. The Colvins design and build custom beds, and receive orders from all across the U.S. George also builds custom saloon doors, accurately designed and built like those of the old west. A set of George's custom saloon doors has been signed by over 40 members of the Professional Bull Riders organization, and will be auctioned, with all monies going to charity.
