Reported by: Steve Abel, Better Business Bureau Monday, Aug 31, 2009 @05:18pm CDT Folks in Abilene are still hearing from the inmates of the Harris County Jail and the calls show no signs of letting up. The BBB continues to get calls from local folks that received collect calls from one of the largest jails in the country. Some people complain about repeated calls placed from a pay phone inside the lock-up.
Called the “star” 72 (*72) scam inmates of the Harris County Jail are trying to trick you into call forwarding your home phone to another phone number usually in the Houston area. If you do, the mistake can cost you big bucks. Once your home phone is forwarded, inmates continue to call your phone number but now the people at the forwarded number continue to accept collect call after collect call from the jail at $3.00 per minute. The BBB suggest not accepting collect calls from the Harris County Jail and never dial *72 to a number unknown to you. Related: |
