ARE YOU FOLLOWING US? — Abilenians and visitors alike are receiving updates about what is going on in Abilene by simply logging into their Twitter account.

The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau tapped into the trend just two short weeks ago by creating an additional online hub for locals and visitors who crave information about upcoming events in the city. Currently, the Abilene CVB’s “followers” are made up of current and former residents, potential visitors, as well as university students who all share fond memories of the city.

Twitter has become an important media for the Abilene CVB. It helps us promote the many discoveries our community has to offer by “tweeting” about events, attractions, activities, and exhibit openings on a regular basis. In addition, Twitter helps the Abilene CVB reach out to people who might be talking about Abilene on other people’s pages. It allows us to help our visitors (or locals) find information about what they want to see or do.  Users who have questions can simply add #AbileneCVB, the hashtag code, to their tweets to alert the CVB. Potential travelers quickly receive accurate and responsive answers to their questions. We want to follow those kinds of conversations, so that we can add to the conversation. Twittering is a way we hope to disseminate information and engage many different age groups through exciting events that otherwise they may have not known about.

Following the Abilene CVB on Twitter is easy; all you have to do is log on to www.twitter.com and create an account (if you haven’t done so already!). Then, click on “Find People” from Twitter’s main page and search for “AbileneCVB” Once you see the Abilene icon in your search results, click on it and open the page. Now, follow us with a click of your mouse! When you follow us, the Abilene CVB logo will appear under those you elect to “follow.” In turn, you will motivate friends to follow the inside scoop as well.

Twitter gives users a text box to enter messages of 140-characters or less, more commonly known as Tweets. Users can even reply to a tweet that the Abilene CVB sent by adding @AbileneCVB to their tweets. This creates a great community vibe by allowing followers to respond to a tweet and share their own experiences, even pictures, of Abilene with other Twitterers.
Those who elect to “follow,” or read the Abilene CVB’s tweets, can stay up on the latest news and happenings in Abilene throughout the week. As a follower, you will receive the Abilene CVB’s tweets through the feed on your Twitter homepage.
Within the next couple of weeks, the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau will host another special giveaway directly from the Abilene CVB Twitter and Facebook pages. In the past, the ACVB provided fans with an “Abilene Trivia Question,” and all they had to do was be the first to respond with the correct answer to the question. In the same way, the Abilene CVB plans to do even more exciting giveaways within the next couple of weeks.

Following the Abilene CVB on Twitter is perfect for visitors to get a glimpse of what is to come before they arrive, or the local that wants to find out about other exciting activities in Abilene. Follow us today, log on to www.twitter.com/AbileneCVB.
