Reported by: Laura Kellerman Monday, Nov 9, 2009 @11:29am CST The state of Texas is holding on to $2 billion dollars worth of property that belongs to its citizens, yet has gone unclaimed.
The state of Texas has returned a record $147 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners so far this year. Nearly 49,000 owners reclaimed $100 to $500, but about 17,400 people claimed more than $1,000. Texas Comptroller Susan Combs says says that money belongs to Texans and reclaiming it would make a difference to many people facing tough financial times. The Comptroller's office will be in Abilene today and Tuesday for a presentation on how residents, businesses, and even local governments reclaim their cash. You can go to the Taylor County Annex at 400 Oak St. from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, or 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. To search and reclaim forgotten funds online, visit www.ClaimItTexas.org. |
