Matt Laubhan Meteorologist ![]() Originally from the small Kansas town of Russell, Matt Laubhan graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science. He graduated at the top of his class, and was awarded Departmental Honors for his study of severe weather. In the summer of 2006, Matt became the first, and only meteorologist in all of West Texas to be awarded the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) distinction from the American Meteorological Society. The AMS grants the CBM designation to broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their weather presentations. A self-proclaimed “weather nut,” Matt became a trained storm spotter when he was only 10 years old, and has tracked countless tornadoes from the field. While attending the University of Kansas, Matt worked as an on-air meteorologist for KUJH-TV and KJHK-FM and was an intern and assistant weather producer for KMBC-TV in Kansas City, MO.
