As the seasons change from summer to fall, be sure to keep in mind all of the great events in Abilene.
The Center for Contemporary Arts will host ArtWalk: “Chalkwalk/Think Pink,” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Free chalk will be provided to decorate the downtown sidewalks! Stop by The Grace Museum for Make and Take It, a free family art activity and to take a look at three great exhibitions celebrating Texas artists, past and present. The Abilene Chamber Players will perform Peter and the Wolf at 6:15 and 6:45 at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in honor of Bravo! by Chris Raschka. The 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum’s Living History Program will feature a briefing of the Allied and Axis vehicles of WWII at 6:30 p.m. Join ACU Cockerell Galleries for the “ABI/NYC” opening reception at 5:30 p.m. and ACU Jazz II Combo performance. Come downtown for live music in Minter Park featuring Paul Matta, Irish Spring, The Penny Jar and Fair Forms throughout the night. ArtWalk is coordinated monthly by The Center for Contemporary Arts. Do some shopping, take a friend to lunch and visit the galleries and museums. There is something for everyone. Pick out fresh, homegrown produce from the Farmers’ Market at N. 2nd and Mesquite, beginning at 7 a.m. Visit the Texas Gun and Knife Show at the Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden star in “Sabrina,” a romantic comedy at the historic Paramount Theatre at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wideman, a former chairman of the World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup in Sweetwater, will entertain you as he shares stories, encounters and trips about hunting and handling rattlesnakes. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Village Gallery. Admission is $7. The annual Ghost Tours at Buffalo Gap Historic Village are also scheduled on Saturday night. Tours will begin at “dusk thirty” around 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person.
