Reported by: Laura Kellerman / Victor Sotelo Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009 @10:42am CDT The leader of the House of Yahweh will not be tried in Callahan County, where the House of Yahweh compound is located. It is instead scheduled to begin Nov. 9 in Weatherford, the seat of Parker County.Prosecutors and defense attorneys for Yisrayl Hawkins were told of the change of venue Tuesday night on a conference call. Hawkins' legal team filed the change of venue motion last month, based on results of a phone survey taken among potential jurors. According to the results, obtained from the court, more than half the people surveyed in Callahan County answered that Hawkins is guilty of bigamy. At the same time the change of venue motion was filed, Hawkins' attorneys also asked that the trial, which was scheduled for Nov. 8, be delayed. That motion was denied. |
