Friday, Oct 16, 2009 @10:19am CDT Loyd was born on September 22, 1922 in Dublin, Texas. On October 11,
2009 the Lord called Loyd Grissom Home at the age of 87 in Abilene,
Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held at North’s
Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. Graveside rites will be held
at Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Loyd was a solid member of the Greatest Generation, living on a family farm through the Depression, and then serving his country in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theater. After the Army, Loyd went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone and stayed there until he retired in 1990, working over 45 years for the same company. While working for the telephone company, Loyd had a second job, building his dream farm in Jones County. He built a home on this place and moved to his ‘heaven on earth’ in 1975. Loyd was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. Whether hunting, fishing, working on the farm or just setting on his front porch he was happiest when enjoying the outdoors. Loyd was a loving husband and father. Loyd is survived by his loving wife Lue Grissom of Abilene; two children, son Doug Grissom and wife Terri of Austin, Texas; daughter Kay Teaff of Merkel, Texas; four grandchildren Brad Teaff of Cisco, Texas and wife Jamie; Scott Bloodworth of Alexandria, LA and wife Tammy; Kami Williams and husband Jamie; Kyle Fish and husband Kirk; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister Laverne Hicks of Irving, Texas. Loyd was a member of the Northside Baptist Church of Abilene. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center and Sears Methodist Hospice for their loving care. |
