HAUNTS, FRIGHTS AND MORE – The fall season and Halloween weekend welcomes a whirlwind of events to Abilene. Celebrate your weekend in a safe, affordable manner with these great events!

The Mall of Abilene will host its annual fall festival from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday. There will be tons of carnival games, costume contests and prizes. A great evening of safe fun for the entire family. Free to the public. For more information, visit www.mallofabilene.com.

“Museum,” a play of two acts by Tina Howe, is set inside an art museum. This weekend, it will actually be performed in one! The Grace Museum, as part of its centennial celebration, partnered with the HSU Theatre Department to stage the appropriately titled play inside the museum’s main gallery; something that has never been done before at The Grace. The script states, “It’s the last day of a major exhibition and museum guards are readying themselves for the worst…” A perfect production for the Halloween weekend! The production is directed by Melissa Green, instructor of theatre at Hardin-Simmons University, and will be performed Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Thursday night’s performance is a special night hosted by The Grace Museum and will include a dessert reception following the performance. Tickets are available for the Thursday, Oct. 29 performance by calling The Grace Museum at (325) 673-4587. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday performances are available by calling the Hardin-Simmons Box Office at (325) 670-1405. Because of the unique nature of the production, seating is very limited, with approximately 60 seats per show.

Get your costumes ready! There will be a Halloween Costume Party on Friday benefitting the Crisis Pregnancy Outreach Center at the Sears Recreation Center. 8 to 11 p.m. $10 a person at the door; $8 per person online. DJ, dancing, food, fun and more. 21+. Information, visit www.cpoc.webs.com.

Visit Abilene’s attractions this weekend. Frontier Texas! will host a PG 13+ haunted house, Fright at the Museum, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Scenes are based on the horrors of frontier life and death, but expect surprises along the way! Cost is $10 per person. Tickets will be sold in advance at the front desk. For more information, call (325) 437-2800 or visit www.frontiertexas.com.

Experience a safe place to spend Halloween at the Carver Youth Council & ICAN Fall Festival on Saturday from 6-9:30 p.m. in the G.V. Daniels Recreation Center. Festival goers can enjoy treats, including: hamburgers, hotdogs, candy and nachos, play games, and participate in a cake walk. Free. Information: (325) 676-6443.

A unique way to experience a movie in Abilene is to see them in the fully restored Paramount Theatre. The Paramount will be showing Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece of modern horror, “The Shining,” at 7:30 and 11 p.m. on Saturday. Another great Halloween entertainment opportunity, as Jack Nicholson stars in this edge-of-your-seat-thriller! Rated R. For ticket information, call (325) 676-9620.

Don’t forget there is still time to stop by the Pumpkin Patch at Disability Resources, Inc., 3602 N. Clack. Bring your cameras, family and friends and make this event a fun outing for a morning or afternoon. Thousands of photo opportunities and pumpkins to purchase! Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to dusk. Sunday, 1 p.m. to dusk. Through Oct. 31. Information: www.driabilene.org or 325-677-6815.
