Reported by: Chris Whited, KRBC News Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @11:24am CST A new Chinese and United States wind farm venture proposed in West Texas is drawing criticism from environmentalists and labor groups. Many blogs and websites are now speaking out against the project based on manufacturing, job creation, and on funding. The majority of the near 2100 jobs created would be in China and not in Texas as most of the manufacturing would take place in China. Only about 300 temporary jobs are expect to be created back here in the United States. Another concern is that the project is hoping to secure 30-percent of the financing from U.S. stimulus funds. The entire wind farm project will cost about $1.5-billion and the 30-percent the U.S would have to provide would equal out to about $450-million. Officials in both the U.S and China involved in the project have not released the location of where the new wind farm will be built in the western part of Texas. Related Links: |
