A grease fire trapped a man, woman and baby on the third-floor balcony of their apartment near the Abilene Zoo around 1:30 this afternoon.

When firefighters arrived six minutes later, the apartment's sprinkler system had already put the fire out, according to Abilene Fire Lieutenant Greg Goettsch.

The people were able to go back through the apartment and out the door to safety.

The fire started when a pan of cooking oil accidentally overheated, Goettsch said.  There was no fire damage to the apartment; only light smoke and water damage.
