The TEA Party Express Bus rolled though Abilene this morning, on a 19-day, 37-city journey. The rally at Redbud Park was hosted by the Big Country TEA Party Patriots, a grassroots movement that is not affiliated with any one political party, according to spokesperson Heather Hodges. Organizers say their goal is to stop the quasi-socialistic policies pushed by liberals in Washington and to decrease government spending. The rally included music and speeches from those traveling with the Tea Party Express, coupled with speeches from local conservatives who shared their reasons for opposing universal healthcare, government bailouts and higher taxes. The tour will continue to Waco then to Austin today for a 5 p.m. rally at the state capitol. |
