Reported by: Katherine Lane Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @02:00pm CST You wait long enough for the perfect deer to come along, so why wait so long for it to be processed? That is the motto an Abilene man based his deer processing company on. The company, located off I-20 east of the Abilene city limits, is called Oh Deer Processing. The machine, called The Wild Thing, can process a deer in 8 to 10 minutes. Inventor Gary Hendrix says he slaved over deer processing in the past, and The Wild Thing is great not only for hunters, but for the processors. He says it will change the processing industry. "It eventually is going to change it dramatically, because it takes about 35% to 40% of the back labor out of it." While the processing takes around 10 minutes per deer, they require a 24-hour cooling period. Any deer taken to Oh Deer! should be ready within 48 hours. Deer season opens tomorrow, and Oh Deer is celebrating with a grand opening starting at 7 a.m. |
