  • A Tea Party at Redbud Park
    Reported by: Brittany Pelletz

    Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @08:00pm CST

"I need a bail out...Somebody rescue me,"song rang out in Abilene's Redbud park, all singing the same tune.

"I'm disappointed and upset with the direction that this country is going and I feel like we need to return to our founding principles in this country," Chip Martin, a Tea Party Express supporter says.

"They cannot simply find three wise men in Washington," a singer on the stage shouted.

Hundreds of people gathered together as the Tea Party Express bus pulled in. Some came from right here in Abilene and others traveled hundreds of miles away to protest the Democrats health-care reform and to what they say is out of control government spending.

"I just came out here to be with all the people to show the government that we want the big government out of or life," says Chase Taylor, an Anson resident.

Bob Prescott lives in Jacksonville, Florida and he is following the Tea Party bus from start to finish. You can find him at all the bus stops with his buttons displaying conservative paraphernalia.

Prescott adds, "Part of it goes to our gas tank to keep us on the trail and the other half goes to the tea party express."

And those on-board the bus, say it is a very rewarding experience to be a part of.

"It's absolutely awesome to see America coming out, standing up and letting their voices be heard. We get so many comments...You know when we pull up...You know, we hear, Wheels for Freedom. It humbles and amazes me," says Diana Nagy, a singer and songwriter on the Tea Party Express Tour.

And while Abilene is just one of the many stops for the Tea Party Express, those in attendance say they're impressed with the crowd of supporters,"I'm really proud of Abilene...You go Abilene...I'm thrilled...This is a good turnout," says Joann Thorp, another Tea Party Express supporter.

Abilene is just one of the many stops. Austin is the tours next stop.
