"My heart just stopped. I was terrified."

News of the tragedy at Fort Hood on Thursday, took Tracy Wilyard's breath away.

"It was so hard without hearing from him."

While the news was shocking, Tracy knew what needed to be done.

"I started praying for my son. Knowing him, he was hunting the bad guy."

But her emotions were still running high.

"I don't want to cry."

Finally, after a wait that felt like forever, she heard her son's voice.

"He said, Mom I'm fine. I could breathe again."

That's when Tracy learned David was just a building away from the shooting.

"I'm sure they immediately went to war mode."

Still this mother could not hide her pride for her soldier.

"I'm proud, he's a warrior."
