Reported by: Chris Whited, KRBC News Wednesday, Nov 18, 2009 @12:22pm CST "We're running out of water" ... that's the message Texas officials have on the state's current water supply. Lawmakers and municipalities are working to raise awareness and funding for new future water sources as the state's population continues to grow. The state's 50-year plan is calling for 19 new reservoirs, like the Cedar Ridge Reservoir in the northern Big Country. Plans also call for water re-use programs, more pipelines, desalinization plants and conservation. The overall plan would cost about $31-billion but the state hasn't funded the plan yet. Big Country officials, however, have been working on plans for Cedar Ridge, which would be located at the intersection of Shackelford, Throckmorton, Jones and Haskell County. Officials have also launched a new website for Texas residents on the 50-year plan and it's importance. Related Links: |
