As you local yokels know, we had lightening that would've hit a golf tee sticking out of the ground last night. We're in the s.w. part of town, and our C-wire antenna is on the water tower off S. Clack. It had to have gotten stung bad.

No internet this a.m. The first "tech" I called had me do stuff I had already done, rebooting the modem, the 'puter even the toilet in the john!

Next thing she wanted me to do was move the modem power cord to different connections all over the room. I guess I'm dense but I always thought the same current came out each plug! Duhh!

Well, it's up and running now. Before that happened though, I spoke with another tech who seemed to have some brains. He thought as I did, the modem or ether net wire got fried. Guess not, because things are moving again.

So, I know now they are working on stuff that the techs don't even know about. In the 3 years I've been on Clearwire, I have found you will either get a tech who really is up on the latest, or you may get a garbage truck driver who just sat in the tech chair. It can go either way.

Another day in the misadventure of being with Clearwire.:D

I agree that some of the local Clearwire people are uninformed (that's being kind!). Actually, there's only one hard-core technician who works the system around town, and he does a pretty good job. The others are nothing more than sales people, and the technician and the sales folks SHOULD trade info, but they don't.

In your case, you should have probably called the 1-800 tech support number and they would have provided you with real efficient analysis of your system. They're good, at least in my experience.

Can hardly wait until Clearwire goes full WIMAX sometimes next year. That will mean speeds at DSL or cable Internet rates. And here in the country where I live, Clearwire is my only real choice (or dial-up). Anyway............. glad you're back up.

well I thought most line are now fiber optics which is immune to things like lightning and magnetic forces. I am just dreaming this up? or is there truth behind what I have heard?

I think Clearwire is wireless ISP

You just buy a modem and pay for the service and the modem gives you your internet no matter where you are in the city.

No wires except the electric plug

at least that is the theory

Like Sparky says, Clearwire is a wireless system. The "modem" connected to your computer receives wireless Internet signals from a tower akin to cell phone broadcasting. Works fine, but broadband speeds are not that hot. But the price is OK.

you can even take a small inverter with you in your car or where ever you can plug into a 12volt cig lighter and link up from there.

Hm. More spam.

For me, Clearwire broadband IS hot, really fast when everything is working right. How fast do you want it? It can't load before you hit the enter button!

I have heard nothing whatsoever about Clearwire going wimax. And they are pretty good at getting news out. I have the top tech's email address, so will ask him about this.

Uh, hate to tell you this, but that's who I did call, got the "dohh" boys.
