I don't understand why new commercials have erupted for the grocery chain Brookshire's. There is not one in Abilene, probably never will be.
The only stores I know of are in smaller area towns.
When Albertson's shut down their nice store on S. 14th, and left a big building empty, I got on the Brookshire's web site and contacted someone about considering coming to Abilene and using that building. I was told they would pass that suggestion on and consider it. Hmph. Didn't take 'em long to turn Abilene down once more. Makes ya' wonder what "power group" is keeping them shut out. The United monopoly lives on. United has great stores, but there is no competition other than ONE H-E-B and the north side Lawrence Bros. Competition makes the pot sweeter for everyone, customers and retailers alike.
My late dad once managed an 'M' System store, long time gone now. It was across the street from Safeway on Butternut. One store fed off the other, they both did great business! IMO more competition feeds the economy. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my thinking.
I wish Brookshire's would reconsider or whoever is keeping them scared out, would just stop it. We need a nice Brookshire's in Abilene.
