I read this article and I thought it was very interesting. I have very strong feeling about why illegals are illegal and the work they do here. Share your opinions.

PASADENA, Texas (AP) - All along the Texas coast, Latino
immigrants are hauling away fallen trees, slashing through
storm-tangled brush and patching punctured roofs.
You'll find them on working-class street corners, on ladders in
front of Victorian houses, in the yards of ornate mansions. Crews
of these men in dusty jeans, sturdy workboots and baseball caps are
nearly as ubiquitous in the post-Hurricane Ike landscape as blue
tarps on rooftops.
They're picked up off the street by homeowners looking for
quick, cheap labor, and they're helping rebuild the devastated
cities of Southeast Texas.
Many of them are in the country illegally; others are legal
residents in need of income after Hurricane Ike disrupted their
regular jobs.
Ike brought a wide swath of destruction, but also the prospect
of more work, higher wages and a respite from the ever-present
threat of deportation. Many day laborers say jobs in the Houston
area had started to dry up recently, and police and immigration
officials had been cracking down.
Now, everybody works.

They are here because the government wants them here.
Many are dirt poor, hard working people.
And serve to keep wages down for all workers.
And if they get out of line or get into trouble, their gone.
Just a half step from slavery. They earn every penny and wouldn't earn enough to have to pay anyway.
If the more fortunate paid their fair share, we would be a lot better off. Instead make risky investments that either hit big or it's a write off.

I do wish they would learn the language though. We shouldn't have to provide bilingual education.

they have no intention of learning anything about America, only to bring their country here instead.

We have allowed this to continue and no one cares....

I think we should have a "day without Mexicans", they should all ban together and refuse to work for a couple of days......then see how much they are appreciated. I understand everyone feeling that they should be required to pay taxes, just like the rest of us, but that is something that should be worked out in the government....and enforced. I do not see that happening. However, I do feel that we SHOULD have bilingual education...they are our neighbors and we do need to communicate. I know if I was a Mexican man, and I had family over there in Mexico----I too, would do what I had to do to find work to provide for them. Backed into a corner, in the same circumstances, I believe 3/4 of the ones complaining about them being here would do the same. That is the problem with our world nowadays...too much stone throwing instead of putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
It isn't their fault that WE have a screwed up system. I also can guarantee this, one of those Mexican men-and women can work circles around the majority of our "citizens".
One last note, think of how much skinnier we would all be if we just didn't have those "Mexicans" over here! No Mexican food.......hmmm., cos I know we love that Mexican food! So, maybe we can just blame the obesity problem in America on them too!
Go figure. God created us all in His image, so I'm pretty sure they are just as important to Him as we are. Oh, and by the way, those roofers do make some good money! It's not all cheap labor--they are definitely not afraid of hard work.

Well, you had a decent post/argument going until until those last few sentences, which were ridiculous and caused you to lose credibility. Like Sparky, I too have no problem with them being in this country, I just want them to be here legally and be subject to the same taxes I am. I'm no stranger to immigration, my mother is 100% German, but she's been in this country legally and became a U.S. citizen about 7 years ago. Just be legal and legit, that's all I ask.

Well Mr. Slapshot, With all due respect, I was trying to "share a lil humor" there, life is too short to be so serious ALL the time. Relax a little! Apparently there is nothing "we" can do about it anyways. Everyone is so uptight right now because of our economy, the presidential debate, everything, and I totally understand that...I just try and keep in mind, that in the long run, everything really is in God's hands. Many may not share my belief, but I believe one day, it will all come to light.
Just for the record, I do agree with immigration being done legal.........my great grandparents also came here from Germany. I kind of think if Mexico was an "ocean" distance away........they may have an easier time keeping control of the whole situation. Just a thought.......You know, I read an article recently about people from Mexico coming into El Paso to work for the day, and actually purchasing real estate while they are over here? Apparently there is some big drug cartel war going on over there and people are trying to buy homes over here to get away from it. They referred to some kind of day pass they are given to come over ( I think it is supposed to be for work, not sure) but if it is so easy to get a day pass........looks like it would be very easy to stay once they get here?.....I think they need to tighten up on that area.....said the real estate may not being doing well everywhere else, but it's booming in El Paso. Which poses another question, if things truly are so bad in Mexico, how can they afford to pay cash for homes here? Makes no sense to me.
I believe in racial equality......and the Golden Rule, but I also believe in obeying the law. My only thing is, in my earlier post, is that we have a system that needs to be cleaned up, I just don't think we should hate people for being here.......apparently it is easier to get here than it should be.
God Bless!
