Just curious as to how many Veterans we have on board, especially since Abilene and Dyess AFB have a repretation, justly, of having one of the best commuinty/military relationships in the nation.
Here goes; Limited info
United States Air Force 1966-1970 4 years/4 months/ 11 days
Discharged as Staff Sargeant E-5. Made it in 28 months/sewed it on in 30.
Hospital Corpsman
Married to Registered Nurse. 1st Louie who swore me
How about others out there who have served.
This is more info than I normally give .

if given the chance to start over again, i would opt into the service. As a kid, i had a bad attitude about authority and knew that i would be like oil in the military water.
But i made a mistake. I should have been a better man at that time.
Regardless, thank you for your service. Men like you allow me the freedom to make a choice, and i cannot thank you enough.

Hey BFFT, things were different when I served than when you could have gone in. My father served and both of my older brothers served. It is/was in my genes. We had to have someone to stay home and keep the home fires burning. I just wish I could have gone back in after 9/11. I tried but they just smiled and said "Thank you, but I don't think so."

His dad, my grandfather, was a in the Navy in WWll
His dad, my great grandfather, was in the Army in WWl, I have amazing stories about is tour
His grandfather, my ggg grandfather was in the Civil War, swam the Mississippi and suffered a heart attack after surviving the Civil War...

Exceptional past history Howdy. Sounds like you come
from good stock there. God bless them all. It is men like
them who built this country.
My son is a US Marine, currently serving stationed at Quantico.
Then I have 2 cousins that are both currently active duty Navy
stationed in Hawaii. Both are submariners.
I have an ex-husband & an ex-father-in-law that were Marines
during the Vietnam era.
An uncle that was a Marine during peacetime 1950's.
A great uncle that served on a Navy destroyer in WWII.
And one great-great-great, etc great grandfather that served
in the Continential Army during the Revolutionary War.
And various other spouses of distant relatives sprinkled here and there.

If it were not for our incredible military, we would not have a country......
This is a quote used in emails of one my very close friends who was in Desert Storm and is now a civilian employee of the military.....
'Except for Ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism and Communism, War Has Never Solved Anything.'

My history includes a colorful past that generates from WWI with my Great Grandfather, WWII with my grandfather, and Korea with my other Grandfather. I spent 13 years active duty as an F-15 Communications/Navigation/Penetration Aids System Specialist. Mouthful, huh? Basically I worked a flight line, repairing vital avionics systems on the F-15. Sometimes that included repairing a system with pilot in the seat, one engine running, ready to fly. Eventually cross trained into the safety career, where I spent my last four years investigating accidents, on duty and off. I was even one of the few ground safety personnel who trained in aircraft crash investigations. Got out 8 years ago to be a full time mom while hubby still is active.

bet that was one sweet assignment. :)
My father served (MP in Panama during Vietnam)
My uncle left the Army about a year before his 20.
My grandad served in the Army, and was a civil servant on the missile silo's on Kwajelein.
That is about it, that i know of. My other two uncles were physically unable (one born with his stomach upside down, the other was hit by a semi when he was 5 and had multiple motorcycle wrecks...he wouldn't have been a good soldier).
I never served. As a youth i had a problem with authority. Still do. You can ask me to do anything, but if i am told to do it expect an arguement.
