Well hello people, I decided to join this little 'hometown' forum after reading some glowing reports of it from a poster here, who shall remain nameless, on another forum which also shall remain nameless. It also seems that my forum bona fides preceded me here but I'm not going to speak of that.
I feel some kinship with you Abilinos since I have a sister some nieces and various other extended family members living there, and since I am a 6th or 7th generation Texican, I have extended family members spread from one end of the state to the other :)
I also have another reason to remember Abilene. I was inducted into the US Marine Corps there at the Armed Forces Induction Center, which used to be on Peach St, as I recall. I also recall spending the night at the old Drake Hotel, along with two more buddies courtesy of the Marines :)
I’ve been polishing these ‘old’ inter tubes since the mid 80’s,I am currently an op on an irc server. It’s a trivia channel, which pretty much makes me a trivia fan.
My politics run towards the progressive side of the political spectrum, which makes me mostly a pariah to the good folks in this area.
Okay, enough of this self-aggrandizing solicitude. Howdy....................................!!! (in my best Minnie Pearl imitation).............anyone around here old enough to remember her? ;)
