Okay, not trying to make everyone angry......just a thought........I wonder how everyone would respond to Obama, if he wasn't a black man and he had a different name.......if they only payed attention to his plans and beliefs for our country. Wouldn't it be interesting if they ran the presidential election and no one could "see" the face of the person, only judge by their experience, knowledge, education and plans for the country.

I can honestly say that I would be totally against him and his socialist liberal leftwingnut policies if I knew he was a white Christian man of Scottish decent. He stands for just about everything that I am against.

i agree. It isn't what he has said on the stump, it is what he has done in his life.
Were i wealthy, i would not allow a brother or an aunt to live in squalor. His stance on partial birth abortion causes me stomach ill.
It isn't what he says, it is what he does that makes me cringe.

Agreed 100%
The man has no clue about the limits placed upon government by the Constitution and I dare say anyone who thinks he is the answer to the countries problems has asked the wrong question
The US Constitution is the supreme law of our land. We must judge any future leaders by their willingness to abide by it.
McCain doesn't seem to be very familiar with it either.
If we keep electing people who have no regard for it, we as a people will loose the protections and rights afforded us.

Color has nothing to do with it........His ideas are too way out to be American. He has brought race into the campaign, his wife has brought race into the campaign, and that shows their true mentality.
He is just as white as he is black. Not an issue in my eyes and obviously not a lot of other Americans either.

I am so glad everyone seems to be looking at his qualifications, or his not having any :)....
I am so confused on this election, I really don't feel it in my heart to vote for either one of these men.

then vote a third party and send a message to both the dems and republicans that you demand a better candidate

Then we would all love him and not question anything. That's the answer you're fishing for isn't it?? I think you should just say what you feel as opposed to timidly asking a question like that. Obama hasn't been any more scrutinized than any other presidential candidate within the past 12 years has. To suggest Obama is being treated differently because he is black is ridiculous. In case you've missed it, if Obama stopped suddenly he'd have the 3 major networks stuck right in his rear. He's the golden child. It's frustrating when the race card gets thrown out. Don't worry Jenny, your guy is most likely going to win (even with your "suggested racism"), and our country will be worse off after 1 year.....mark my words.

i don't think that was what she was implying.
Her thread started right after that experiment in NYC where people were given things from McCains platform, but were told they were Obama's platform. It was in a primarily black neighborhood, and a majority of the people said they liked the "Obama" platform better, even though it was McCains platform with Obama's picture on it.
She was asking a legitimate question: are we going to see people vote for what they feel is right, or for a "brother". Are they educated on the issues and platforms, or just voting for a skin color?
To me, even more important, do people vote "Democrat" and "Republican", or do they vote their conscience?

I have to say that I vote conscience. I have to pick someone who is closest to my personal beliefs such as abortion, economy, military, and other things like that. Obama stand on these subjects wipe him off the ballot in my eyes.

It's exactly what she was implying.....which is why she started her post with "Okay, not trying to make everyone angry".

LOL! Experiment? That was a bit from the Howard Stern show (I'm busted, I'm a Stern fan and listen every day).
She was asking a legitimate question: are we going to see people vote for what they feel is right, or for a "brother". Are they educated on the issues and platforms, or just voting for a skin color?
I disagree that it was a legitimate question. In EVERY election since the start of democracy there are people who know absolutely nothing about their candidate's stance on "the issues". Example: There will always be people who vote for the democratic candidate based solely on the fact that they are a democrat (same for the republican party).

Perhaps the disclaimer was due to the fear of being branded a "racist"?

Okay, first of all, MR. SLAPPER, You know what they say about assuming....it makes an @ss out of you.......You have no idea who I am or what I am about. For the record, No, I am not a racist and am not trying to imply you or anyone else is (of course seeing how defensive you get at the misunderstanding......hmm......guess that's a whole other thread)
However, I was just simply making conversation on the whole situation.
As for me, I don't feel comfortable voting for Obama or McCain.........I don't agree with either of them being good enough to run our country. I tend to agree with Sparky on voting 3rd party. Now with all due respect...............Relax a little....

let's see do the majority of American's agree cheney/bush were good enough to run the country.
how about clinton/gore?
bush/quale?
i've followed a lot of elections most of them were split decisions and too close to call prior to election day but the quality of the elected president gets measured by the people during and after their presidency. still most in my recall were "not good enough to be president" ... which one depended on who you were talking to at a given point in time.

The last decent president we had was Reagan. Before that, Kennedy. They are in short supply, apparently.

You would have Jimmy Carter.
I could care less what Color the man is, I would vote for J.C. Watts, Condelisa or Alan Keyes in a heartbeat.

Just from the above few sentences I know exactly who you are and what you're about. Not once did I suggest you were a racist, but I see you have no problem suggesting that I am. Typical.... "do as I say, not as I do." You went fishing for a response and you got one. I challenge your innocent "simply making conversation".

Then why even go through the trouble of posting your question? I'll tell you why, to ignite discussion.

I highly doubt you knew who the third party candidate was before today.....and I stay in a state of relaxation. :)

You know Slapshot, You truly are wrong about me, but I'm not going to worry about all that. Life is too short to worry about things such as that. I'm sure you aren't losing any sleep over it, neither am I. However, I do wanna let you know, whether we agree to disagree or not, I do want you to know that I appreciate all you and your family do for our country. Much love there. I definitely think you are cut out to handle the responsibility---sounds like you are definitely not afraid of standing up for what you believe!!
It's been fun!
God Bless!
