The red ants

I love to watch the big red ants. After observing them for the past year, I have taken notice their patterns. They give a 2 day warning when rain is coming. They all disappear, with maybe a very small hand full just at the opening of their bed, not going away from the bed. Then 1 day before it rains, they are cleaning house, taking their waste out of the bed and dropping and returning for more. Then the next day, guess what, it rains. The are more reliable than any weather I have ever seen. Of course I still listen very close to the weather because I like to compare the 2. Watch the big red ants. They are amazing at forecasting the weather! Not to mention they have given me a greater respect for them and nature.

I believe they are called "Carpenter Ants", and yes, they are neat to watch. The little red fireants are a different story.....I wish death upon every one of them!!! :D

i thought they were the carpenter ants, but i did not want to call them by the wrong name, ya know, i did not want to offend them.....lol:Dhahalmao:p

Those little jokers can do some digging! Really neat (and different) present. If you think they're cool to watch outside, you'd really get a kick out of them in this habitat.

21I HATE fireants!!!

They have almost killed out the horned toad and those striped green lizards we used to play with as kids, not to mention when they bite you (and never just one) it hurts like h#ll. It seemed that even the big red ants thined out for awhile, its nice to see more of them again.

Oh man, does that bring back memories! There were more horned toads around than people! Me and the other neighbor kid had a blast with those things. Poor little guys are just about all gone now.
