It's good to be informed about everything, warned, cautioned, etc., but I hope we aren't trying to start up panic in the area over this swine flu stuff. All I can hear or read is "It's going to definitely get worse." "You will get it", garbage like that. If all our nerves are frayed from worry, of course we'll get it! Stress makes you ill! We need to stay calm about it, but not present it on the news like it's a certainty. God is watching out for everyone, and I don't think He's going to let every one get hit and die from a flu bug.
The media is in the business to make sensationalism create drama from otherwise dull stories, but we need to use some degree of prudence in airing this stuff, keep people from going into hysterics. All the footage from Mexico shows them all wearing masks, and that's good. That is only going to help keep it confined to their country, and eventually settled. Don't travel there for a while til it's settled, and things shouldn't get to worldwide epidemic like the media wants us to believe.
Use common sense, wash hands when you get home, eat well, get plenty of rest, take vitamins, etc. Shouldn't have a major outbreak of anything doing that, but then that would be boring and not "entertain" as good as "It's coming! Beeee ready!" :o

I have a hand washing issue already, but I really feel the urge to really wash my hands and the hands of my kids even more. I told them I did not want them drinking out of the water fountains at school. They told me they are taking extra precautions at school, but the watering hole should not be used.
I am trying not to wash my hands too much. It just feels I am having a hard time controling it now.

Howdy, Howdy!
As a kid, my late mom was a germ freak! I was sick a lot and after I got well, everything in the house got drenched in Lysol. I mean EVERYTHING! Due to that upbringing, I'm that way to an extent, just not as bad. But, I do use Germ-X every time we come in from running errands. Just a good practice. They say it doesn't do as good as warm water & soap, but I like to think it does as it's so much quicker and more convenient. I also use it after using the john. Just good common sense.
I wouldn't worry about washing too much, Howdy. With all this stuff they claim is going to wipe out the human race, no one can really wash too much, IMHO.

Well, *sigh* by what I'm reading and hearing, I guess no one is trying to cause panic. This thing is for real, it's deadly and likely to become pandemic even here in Abilene before long.
The time has come now for everyone to hit the deck in ernest and start PRAYING!
This is one VERY GRAVE SITUATION!

My husband went and bought some masks and there were none left in town! He found one box at a medical supply place! It was the craziest thing I have ever seen!

It may be getting crazier yet, Howdy. It's a nightmare I wish we could all wake up from, but it's for real.

I have tried to find contact info where I could contact KRBC to complain but I can't find any info on this website other than this forum.
I was VERY interested in watching The Doctors show today because of the topic of MS. Montel Williams was on the show and was discussing some important issues when Breaking News broke in. The news was over the Swine Flu. Why they thought it was necessary to interrupt the show I cannot understand. They said that there was no cases of the Swine Flu in the Big Country! So why Breaking News!!! This could have waited until the evening news!!!
I am very disappointed that KRBC did that. It's like they ARE trying to panic everyone.
I hope I can go to The Doctors website and see the full show because by the time the Breaking News was over, so was the portion of the show I had been waiting to see! :(

Glad you're pig flu free, Slapper. I wish I was there instead of here. :D
That sounds crazy, DayMolly, but typical. Next thing we know they'll be making ado over a contagious ingrown toenail outbreak.

We finally located some hand sanitizer at United, everywhere else was wiped. We were out of it anyway, and have used it for years. Just timed it right (ran out) in time for the media-induced panic. They've got everybody scared of their shadows over all this.
This is the same caution that should've been practiced for decades for any other flu, cold or gut virus. Those will make you very ill too, but it took a media scare to get people to being more hygenically awake and doing the things they should do anyway, during any kind of bug "going around".

This evening a news conference was held at Abilene City Hall to announce that 6 children from the Merkel area were "probable" for H1N1. The samples are being to the CDC in Atlanta, Ga for further confirmation.
The County Medical Director said, "The children have all recovered from this illness. They were given the drug 'Tamiflu' when they were seen by their Doctor.
There is no reason to panic about this at this time as per Mayor Norm Archibald.
I am sure that more will be said about this in days to come. The CDC has said that this strain of flu is not as serious as first thought as it lacks the gene to make it long lasting.
This message is just for informational purposes.....

That sounds much better. I've been having trouble going to sleep at night worrying about this mess! My wife sneezed a time or two this a.m. and I nearly freaked! Just her allergies.
Guess the media will make a big deal out of athlete's foot next.

I bet you'll be okay, Howdy. I think it's mostly hitting kids. The kids get it, but the parents stay well. Try to stay calm, rest, eat right, and I bet you'll be just fine.

Ahhh yes, the local news stations and their "Breaking News". I remember one time they broke into a playoff hockey game that was in overtime for weather. Now keep in mind that the weather warnings were continuously scrolling on the screen. They interrupted the game to say the EXACT same thing that was scrolling on the screen already....almost word for word. I about lost my mind. They'll break into programming for anything, get used to it.
