According to our story on BigCountryHomepage.com, President Obama today said reform of the health insurance system is critical for the welfare of individuals and government budgets.

He spoke in the White House Rose Garden, as both the House and Senate work feverishly to produce reform bills before the August Congressional break.

The President reassured Americans who currently have health insurance that he believes they'll see improvements in private coverage also, under his reform plan.

Those improvements, he claims, will be lower costs, lower deductibles, and eliminating coverage denials to due preexisting conditions.

What do you think? Will congressional action help or hurt health care in America?

The only way it will help is if it is not required to have government health care and that the private health care companies do not go out of business because the government took 'control' by offering lower coverage.....there will be millions more out of jobs.....and then there will be only one insurance company and that will be the government 'controlled' insurance and then we will loose millions of doctors because they will leave the country because most of them came to America so they can practice medicine without government control. The government will then start controlling how many kids families want to have, saying you can only have 3 children and 2 of them have to be boys, and we will kill all the girls.....sound familiar? (china)

People just did not know what they were voting for in November.

In my situation, I am on Social Security Disability and cannot get health insurance from anyone without paying through the nose for it. Uncle Sam says that I cannot do my regular job any longer due to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. My Dr. says that I cannot work due to complications of diabetes. Social Security says that I am not eligible for Medicare for 2 years after I started receiving my benefits. So I am left with 2 years of mounting medical bills that I have to pay for out of pocket.

Yesterday I went to the hospital here in El Paso for them to look at my leg and was treated like a second class citizen since I had no insurance. While yet there were "foreign citizens" that had obtained Medicaid and Medicare and they were treated like royalty. After spending 6 1/2 hours in the waiting room I blew a gasket at someone and was finally brought back to a gurney in the hallway. 5 hours later I was told by the Dr.s there that they didn't know how come I was running fever, they didn't know the cause of the leg pain or swelling, and they didn't know why my lymph nodes were swollen in my leg. I was given pain medicine and told to when I get back to Abilene to see my regular Dr. I am quite sure that the situation would have been entirely different had I been insured.

So what I am saying in all of this is, yes I would like to be able to have health insurance, be it from the government or an outside party.

The sad part is that Social Security Disability IS a federal program and yet they have made rules such that you can't get the help you need and deserve. Why would one think that another federal program, i.e. health care, would be any less onerous? If they give you coverage, but limit the amount or type of care you get or make you wait two years to use it, are you any better off? I don't think the federal government has any idea what they are doing. Just throwing out terms like "less cost" and "some think the devil you know is better than the one you don't". Have you ever seen any thing the federal government has done that has resulted in things being better? Taxes will go through the roof; people that don't want coverage will be forced to get it; doctors and hospitals will be forced to take lower compensation in order to provide coverage to 42 million people who don't have coverage; those who don't have coverage will immediately use the coverage, which will increase cost due to the increased volume of care being dispensed and before you know it, we will have a committee that will be deciding who gets care and what kind of care you get. Rationing has been talked about by government agencies and you can bank on it happening if they do this. We are about to get run over by a train and even if we apply the brakes, it will take miles for the train to stop and by then we will be under it.

One more thought. When the government run insurance program puts the private insurers out of business, it stands to reason that Abilene will have 1,200 Blue Cross and Blue Shield employees out of work at the worst or many lay offs at the least. Great way to improve our economy!

Our president (?) has threateded to bankrupt the USA if we do not bow to his wishes and pass the outrageous Health Care bill. We will all be very sorry if it is passed. It will be nothing like the public who wants it thinks it will be. We will all be paying for it starting in 2010 even though it will not be effective for 3 more years. In 3 years, who knows what will be added to ,or taken away, to the bill now in the Senate?

HOWEVER!!!!!! If you have been convicted of a DRUG crime and have served time, you do not qualify for any type of federal assistance. No housing, no food stamps, no nothing.....does not matter if you have kids or not!

SO! When the numbers pop up saying there are millions with no insurance and millions of kids going hungry in America, it is because their parents do not qualify for assistance! And we are supposed to feel sorry these people.

My question is......Are the same rules going to apply with this new HCB.....if so, NOTHING will be improved!
