State police wearing riot gear had to step in and keep hundreds of black and white protesters yelling "Black power" and "White power" away from each other yesterday in downtown Paris, Texas.
How long before race is no longer a divisive issue?

IMHO, it is always going to be an issue. Now let me ask this simple question: What would have happened if the tables had been turned and the guy that got run over had been a white man and the black man had the charges dropped against him? Do you think that there would have been a protest against that??
The moniker of "African-American" and "Mexican-American" needs to be dropped first . I don't call myself "Prussian-American" and I don't see others going by "German-American" or "French-American". We are AMERICAN not a hyphenated name. Once it gets to the point that we are "American" then I think the racial issue will dissolve. Until then, not happening.
What would happen if there were a "White Chamber of Commerce", or a "White Miss America Pageant", or a National Association for the Advancement of White People"????

Well said, TS. It's getting down to a man with freckles, and lady with red hair, yada-yada. Americans is it, and all it should be...period. I've got a German, Dutch, Irish Scotch Indian background. I can see putting all THAT in the paper if I did something newsworthy. :D
