Good news for Big Country residents who watch KTAB and KRBC TV using an antenna.

Final repairs are underway to get KTAB and KRBC TV digital broadcast signals back to full power.

The repair work being done over the next two days will result in sporadic outages of both station's broadcast signals.

The broadcast outages should not affect customers of Suddenlink cable TV in Abilene or several other communities served by Suddenlink, or Dish Network subscribers who have the local channels.

Again, the outages will only affect viewers who watch the stations using an antenna.

Station General Manager Eric Thomas said that "we are excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with the repair process, which was lengthy due to circumstances beyond our control. We apologize in advance to our viewers for any inconvenience as the final repairs are made. But the outages are necessary to get the stations back up to full power."

Chief Engineer Glen McCandless says a tower crew has been working over the past two weeks to replace a broadcast transmission line on the station transmission tower. That transmission line was damaged by a possible equipment malfunction back in May.

Both stations have been operating on low power since the incident as equipment had to be sent back for re-manufacturing and the broadcast transmission line had to be repaired or replaced. It was determined several weeks ago that the line could not be repaired, so crews have been working to replace the damaged line this week.

McCandless said work crews from several vendors are now in the final stages of testing and connecting equipment to the transmission line and the digital antenna which broadcasts both stations.

Barring an more equipment issues or bad weather, McCandless expects that both stations should be back up to full power by the weekend.

Good to hear, Tom, but sadly, the tower to our set top antenna signal now fades, where prior to repairs, it wasn't. But, we can get it very good on Suddenlink, so not a problem.

I moved the set top aerial a few inches, watched the signal strength meter, and now she's hitting off average of 98 or so! It's not chopping out like it was either. What a dif. a few inches can make on digital!

Are you using a antenna with a pre-amp?

I would try this if you're not.
