I put this in the political area ... because it is in nature a socio political topic.

California is now $12,000,000,000.00 in debt
they are in the process of laying off state workers and cutting wages of other state workers.

The very government is in jeopardy of shutting down

My open question the Governator Aanuld...
How is that open border policy and creating a refuge for illegal aliens working out for ya?;)

One of the most productive, technically advanced states in the country going broke supporting people who came here illegally and broke laws to get in.

The $12,000,000 in debt is only a MINIMAL issue as it relates to illegal immigration in California presently. The issue is the failure to have presented an acceptable budget for the state.

Sparky,

An FYI, here is the link:

If the link isn't working, paste into your browser.

Yes, California has a very large illegal immigrant population. But, a LOT of California's problems are primarily related to all the bond issues they pass regarding just about anything. Then, they can't pay the bonds back and the taxpayer gets hit. Again and again and again.

I read somewhere that California would have to build a new school almost every week in order to keep up with the illegal immigrant population boom.

thats a hit and what you said makes sense, they pass a bond to build a school and can't repay it.

I would imagine the housing bust causing tax revenues to plummet is another big hit.

That place is just nuts!

I'm not certain that the state or school districts are building a new school every week. I think that's false although I would like to see the link to that. It may be the case in certain areas where the lettuce growers, grape harvesters are, etc., but I've never noticed that. Schools out there are old - they need serious updating and it is simply not a priority. But, in many areas, the schools are very top rate. I lived in the bay area and was around Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View schools. Their graduation rates and going to college rates are very large. The property tax issue has ALWAYS created a stir.

Look. The place isn't really "nuts." There are a lot of conservatives there - it's that the far left wing dictates to the likes of Pelosi and Boxer. They are the major players and they are in the bay area (northern CA - SF). LA's politicians aren't really as well known - everyone IS too "Hollywood" down there. (Although I have had some incredibly good times there!)

Full disclosure: I'm a native Texan, born and raised in the DFW area. I lived in the northern CA area for 4 years and moved back to Texas and lived for 4 months just north of Abilene. I love the Big Country. But, I am now in Austin - it's bigger and there's a better business environment.

Anyhoo, just my thoughts. God bless.

The bonds I am talking about are usually in regards to water quality (that's a big issue - can't use ocean water - dependent on mountain runoff), transportation initiatives and school stuff - yes - but normally regarding some darn union initiative.

Remains to be seen Sparky. I'm not doubting you, but unfortunately, it's difficult to gauge this. It's an emotional issue, ya know. I want quantification. But, again, I doubt you not!

Thanks. I will watch for sure!!

What is your political persuasion and why? Just curious. Love the area you are in and I return frequently for family. (Beautiful drive from Austin.) It is wonderful to see all the military! God bless them.

.....

I am a recovering Republican who has spent years thinking they would turn things around
I'll be voting for the Constitution Party this time.

To say I'm conservative is an understatement.:D

Sparky,

While I disagree with the GOP and McCain on several different levels (i.e., the main one being the move away from our historically conservative principles), I feel that an Obama victory will destroy this country. I will not cast a protest vote to see that happen. I feel that's pretty selfish given where the country is headed.

While it seems that the border issue is the main one mentioned with gritted teeth towards McCain on these posts, I feel the biggest issue is one of electing a total Marxist. With Obama's connections to various lobbyists and his guidance from George Soros' groups like Moveon.org, if he is elected, these groups will get their wish: destroy America from within. You will also have Democratically controlled House and Senate. They will pass the "cap and trade" legislation (see http://www.americansforprosperity.org/) and you will see an increase in taxes like this country has never seen before. It will affect your very base freedoms, hit your paycheck and 401K/pension directly.

The other issue is the threat of jihad. They are not done with us by any means. Although I do not think Obama is a muslim, I feel he would act as an apologist for them and we would see an increase in CAIR activity immediately. (http://jihadwatch.org) This site is great and discusses a lot of this.

McCain is the "least" worst candidate in this election and one that does stand a chance of winning. Now is not the time to cast a petulant vote simply because you are angry with the party. The GOP well realizes that they have left their base and there are many of us out there that are making them aware of it. I strongly feel that in our lifetime, this is the most important election ever.

How will any party leadership pay attention to me if I keep voting for them?
I have been voting for the least worst candidate, as you put for my whole voting life. Where has it got me?
Not since the 104th Congress has the Republican leadership acted with some authority.

You mention a selfish vote, I might say yours is a cowardly one.
Maybe if it gets bad enough the real conservatives will rise to the top.

I view the folks who want something better but accepting the "least worst" option like the character in the movie "Vacation who played aunt Edna when she bit into the sandwich that the dog peed on and went ahead and swallowed instead of spitting it out.

Keep eating the urine sandwiches, I've grown tired of them myself.;)

I don't consider myself a coward, thank you very much. I work at the grassroots level to effect change. We're working on it. I just feel it is more realistic to work within the system since it is established. Read John Culberson and Jeff Flake's views. They mirror the real conservatives. Their actions in DC are honorable.

That was an interesting, albeit crude analogy. I think you could have phrased it without the vulgarity. Hope you accomplish what you need.

Selfish and cowardly are just two adjectives not considered vulgar by any standard

You do what you feel is best for you and I will do what I feel is best for me.

Selfish and cowardly were not what I was speaking of as vulgar.

Stay classy, Sparky. You're in your own league.

The "system" is comprised of more than just 2 political party. I am with Sparky on this one, I will probably be casting a vote for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. For too long have they paraded the Republicans and the Democrats as our only 2 real choices when there are more options available such as the Constitution and Libertarian parties. What has this gotten us so far? War and more war on the way, a 9 trillion dollar debt and corruption at every level.

Check out the other parties and listen to what they have to say, you don't have to agree with them but at least check them out. You never know, you might find one you like.

just like in business, more competition gives more choice to consumers

When the big "two" start losing votes maybe they will re-think their product offering

Welcome to my world. A world where I have to think about every word I type and wonder if someone will get their feelings hurt. I mean seriously, I received a warning for using the word "buttocks"!? Why can Forrest Gump say that word but I can't? :D
