Default Abilene Christians...

It looks like it's time we took a stand.

First they started allowing booze at the exposition center, now they're trying to get it at the zoo. The zoo is for families, not alcoholics! It was bad enough starting to sell it at the expo center, now they're trying to push it at the zoo. What was wrong with limiting it to the saloons, bars and the alcoholic's personal home? Stats keep showing a steady rise in DWI accidents, many of them fatal. Why are the brainless of our city trying to pour gasoline on the fire?

What's next, the public school faculty break rooms? The liberal pseudoChristian churches in our city? When is all of this going to stop? They may well start selling it at our high school football games and other events. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Booze is like any other drug. To some with no taste, it tastes good, it makes them feel temporarily good, but it always turns around and bites like a rattlesnake.

If it goes over and beer is made available at the zoo, my wife and I have made our last visit. We're Christians and if we're going to be exposed to drunks and the sale of this liver killer, we may as well patronize a bar.
If the Lord tarries in returning, I wouldn't be shocked to see them start selling pot or "crack" at public events. It's a drug too, no different than alcohol. They removed cigarette ads from TV years ago due to them causing cancer and being dangerous which they are. But, then the ads for booze more than tripled. All alcoholic beverages do are destroy lives, take lives in auto accidents, poison the liver, mind, heart...and soul. That's "all" it does. So, Mr. Bartlett, when you give the news about booze taking over our city, be sure to use the word "enjoy" again! I don't think it's "enjoyable" to see lives destroyed by alcohol. If a person chooses to do so, let them do it in the privacy of their own homes or in a bar. Leave it out of family oriented businesses or events. Enough of this sick rapid downward spiral our city is making, is enough.

Time to wake up, Christian Abilene. Satan is taking your town.

Default if the devil is taking our city it is our fault

other day my husband and i were walking by daves pizza and i was like is that place closed there are hardly no cars and this was around 6:00pm. husband was like no, i said, a friend of mine says that they have one in another city that sells alcohol and they are always packed. husband was like well this is a christian city there not gonna allow that here they won't let no one make money and they won't spend money either cause they give it to the churches where preachers are driving nice cars and living in nice houses.

i thought he was a bit harsh but at the same time it seems true what do we have to offer the world? what do we have to offer abilene that would be better than drinking. there is nothing to do here in this town except drink or go to church. nothing especiallly for the family. everytime they do something family oriented it gets incredibly packed. take the balloon fest, fourth of july at the zoo, and just recently at pioneer baptist church where they had the fall festival thing it seemed all abilene showed up. all these events get too packed, abilene families are starving for something to do with their families, but their just is not enough of that here in this town, we should be the most family oriented town there can be, where there are so much family events that it will push the alcoholics out and us in the spotlight. we should be the ones that spend money on our businesses so that they don't feel the need to sell alcohol.

Hi, Summer! You have said so much. That has always seemed to be how it is here, just dullsville. We need more church sponsored, and oriented things for the family. If we had enough of that, it might encourage alcoholics to want to get help and turn their lives around. God can make it happen! When folks turn away from God, it only gives satan a chance to move in, i.e. booze, dope, whatever. The old saying still holds true: "The family that prays together stays together." I sure agree with you. We need to get our values back, the ones that always work... God's.

Thanks so much for your input and great advice. We're with you on it all.
and...
God bless,
