Updated: February 4, 2009
Texas has topped the national average of percentage of students who take Advanced Placement tests, according to the Texas Education Agency.

The College Board, which administers the tests, reports 27.5 percent of Texas high school students who graduated in 2008 took at least one AP test in their high school career.  The national average is 25 percent.

AP participation in Texas:
Class of 2008:  73,008
Class of 2007:  65,958
Class of 2006:  48,648

Most universities offer automatic course credit to students who score a 3 out of 5 or better, which means a savings on overall tuition.
