The economy may be down, but spas are getting new life. And it's not just the never-ending quest to look and feel younger. The clients are getting younger too. And parents are going further than ever to pamper their kids. Today's spa clientele is taking a turn, offering teens, tweens, and even younger kids their own services.
Spas report seeing more kids seeking hair dye, manicures, and even bikini waxes. Some are also seeking fuller lips, with the help of Botox.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the demand for filler among teens surged 42 percent last year. Botox treatments alone totaled 11,000. But nose jobs lead the 1/4 million cosmetic procedures on teens 18 and under.
Whatever the procedure, parents are warned to keep it safe and in moderation as ultimately they have the power of the purse.
The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend injections for minors. Typically, the cost for kids and adults is about the same.
