Selected by a four-member panel, Martinez was one of 19 applicants considered for the position.
The Texas Education Agency awarded AISD a grant of nearly $500 thousand for the "T-STEM" academy.
The first class will consist of 100 9th graders. Curriculum will be based on that of the New Tech Foundation, which uses project-based learning.
Martinez received his Masters of Education from Angelo State University in December of 2006.
