There's an ongoing need for medics, and the Abilene Fire Department understands that as well as anyone. That's why it would like to have funding for a paramedic training program, to further train intermediate fire-fighters.
It's a request the fire department made as part of the economic stimulus projects list, which is essentially a wish-list for different departments in the city of Abilene.
The fire department requested just over $682 thousand for the paramedic training program.
Total requests from the AFD add up to $6,575,800. That includes $3.6 million for replacement of fire apparatus and a fire truck maintenance facility.
