Fires Still Popping Up after Rain

"In light of last week’s moisture, we’re still experiencing fire activity," said Les Rogers, assistant chief with the Texas Forest Service.Just in the last week, the TFS reports 27 fires that have burned more than 5 thousand acres.
An electrical box sparked a grass fire in Shackleford County Sunday on the Jeter Ranch. That fire is now 90 percent contained. That burned 85 acres.
Since Jan. 22, the Texas Forest Service has responded to 434 fires for 60,412 acres, and the local fire departments have responded to a reported 2,634 wildfires for 61,177 acres.
According to the TFS, 2,851 structures have been saved, including 2,028 homes. There have been 134 structures lost, including 49 homes.
