Abilene Economic Indicators

The governments plan to soak-up bad assets combined with unexpected gains in home sales sent the stock market almost 500 points higher today.
Meanwhile, the Abilene economic index for January is out.
As you might expect, auto sales and lighter air traffic at the airport, but the big surprise came in single family housing construction permits; 16 of them in January, reflecting an 80 percent increase over 2008.
Still, the total of all the economic indicators for Abilene indicates that the local economy remains flat.
