If you live in an apartment or rent a house your options are a little more limited. But there are things you can do to help save the environment and save yourself some money.
"Make sure that you have CFL, compact fluorescent light bulbs.
If you're painting an apartment, you can use low voc, low volatile organic chemical paints," says building owner Frank Shier.
One of the easiest ways to green your apartment is to adjust your thermostat.
You can save 5 percent on your energy bill with a one degree adjustment.
Lower it one degree in the winter and raise it one degree in the summer.
Another good tip: Install energy efficient window blinds.
Installing a low-flow shower head can save water and money.
Ask your apartment complex to provide recycle bins.
Landlords and building owners can take even more steps to go green.
