The prolonged drought in Texas continues to cause problems for the state wheat farmers and that could translate into higher bread prices.
A report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture says about 40-percent of the wheat crop in Texas is in "very poor" condition.
The other 60-percent of the crop ranks between "fair" and
"poor. "
Texas farmers planted about 6-million acres of wheat in the state during the winter months, according to the USDA. Drought losses to farmers and ranches in the state is approaching $1-billion dollars according to a recent report by the Texas AgriLife Extension Agency.
