Lights Removed from Shotwell Stadium

By: Andrew Carlson
Updated: April 13, 2009
The 50-year-old light poles at Shotwell Stadium are past their prime.

One of them crashed to the ground during a recent windstorm.  Engineers decided last week to remove all of the lights in favor of a newer system.

Though no designs have been finalized, it's expected the new lights will be mounted on two poles: one on each side of the stadium, while providing about twice the amount of light on the field.

The Abilene ISD School Board now has to decide how to pay for the new lighting.
