Updated: April 17, 2009
Some unexpected news broke earlier today.

Dr. David Polnick announced that he will no longer serve as the superintendent for the Abilene Independent School District.

Dr. David Polnick has served as an educator in Abilene for thirty-two years, and has served as the AISD superintendent since 2003.

Dr. Polnick plans on continuing his position with AISD until at least 2010, but decided to make his announcement now in order to give the board time to find a replacement.

Stepping down from his leadership roll with AISD, Polnick has other things in his life that he plans on devoting his time to.

Polnick feels privileged to have been part of the Abilene Independent School District, and will serve as AISD superintendent until next school year.

He and his family will continue living in Abilene; watching the future success of Abilenes school district.

There is no word yet on who will fill the shoes of Dr. Polnick as the AISD superintendent; however, he says he knows that AISD will put the right person in charge.
