Stamp Prices Rise Two Cents

Mailing a first class letter via the U.S. Postal Service costs 44 cents today.

USPS now offers the special "Forever" stamp at the current price of first class postage. Those stamps can be used no matter what the price of postage may reach -- forever.

The cost for sending the first ounce in a larger than standard letter size envelope will go from the current 83 cents to 88 cents.

The first ounce for a package on Monday goes to a $1.22, up from t$1.17.

The Postal Service announced in February the two cent first class bump would cost the average U.S. household $3 a year.

The increase is necessary to make up for a massive decline in the use of first class mail.

Volume fell by a massive 7.5 billion pieces in the second quarter of this year compared to the same time last year.
