Republican Newt Gingrich officially stepped away from his presidential campaign, Wednesday afternoon.

The announcement also signaled the end of a five month journey for a Lubbock woman who ended up playing a big role in Gingrich's campaign.

Sondra Ziegler was the volunteer deployment coordinator for Gingrich.

Her three kids tagged along with her on the road for five weeks, stopping in states like Iowa and South Carolina to round up volunteers for him.

She said she expected Gingrich to make an exit announcement, but she also said it doesn't change the way she feels about him as a leader.

"I mean, I was thoroughly convinced, and still am, that Newt is the most qualified candidate in the race. He has fantastic ideas. His record as a conservative in cutting the size and scope of government is unparalleled in the race, so yeah, I've been grieving for probably about three weeks now that he's getting out," she said.

Ziegler is now focusing her time around an online movement called "OMG November."

That stands for "Obama must go."

"The money I've spent, the time I've spent, it was all worth it because it's renewed my faith in our country, really."
