Three Democrats Hope to Succeed Ross in 4th District

Updated: May 6, 2012
Three Democrats will be on the May 22 ballot hoping to replace Mike Ross as the congressional representative in Arkansas' 4th District.

State Sen. Gene Jeffress of Louann, Q. Byrum Hurst of Hot Springs, and D.C. Morrison of Little Rock are all vying for the spot.

Jeffress was the first Democrat to announce his intention to run for the seat. He has served in the Arkansas House of Representatives and the Arkansas Senate since 1999.

Hurst is a longtime attorney and small business owner. His father, who died in 2006, was a state senator for 22 years. His father unsuccessfully ran for governor in 1972.

Morrison labels himself a conservative Democrat. The Little Rock businessman earned some name recognition when he took a suprising 13 percent of the vote in the 2010 Democratic Senate primary.

Three Republicans are also seeking the spot. They are Tom Cotton of Dardanelle, Beth Anne Rankin of Magnolia, and John Cowart of Texarkana.
