76-year old Beth is playing the hand she has been dealt, a diagnosis of alzheimer's disease. The mother of 6 has a disease that attacks her brain, slowly robbing her of memory, function, and eventually her life.
In an effort to keep her at home and happy, her husband engages her in daily mind games, hoping she will stay sharper longer. That is something the alzheimer's association would like to change. The LaFlam family loves the moments they have, but they know the disease is still marching forward.
According to the alzheimer's association, about 500,000 Americans have early-onset alzheimer's disease, which is before the age of 65.
