It is as easy as the click of a button, but it has got enough power to save a life.

Betty Hill has lived at Wisteria Place for almost a year. When she first moved in, she was given a Lifeline, a necklace she wears in case of an emergency.

When she first moved into the independent living facility, she fell in her room, badly bruising her shoulder. She then pushed the button on her Lifeline, alerting the front office that she needed help.  Had it not been for her Lifeline, Hill says she would not have gotten help as fast as she did.

"Noone was with me, but I had a friend, and (it) was my Lifeline."

That is exactly why Wisteria Place uses the Lifeline, says Director Becky Hansen.

"It's a very practical thing for senior citizens and for those who might have any sort of health issue. It could be dizziness, it could be a fall, or a little emergency situation, they can ring right through and we're there as quickly as possible."

For residents at Wisteria Place, you can't put a price on security.   Residents choose either the necklace or bracelet form of Lifeline. All of the Lifelines are included in the residents monthly expenses.
