The dog owners in the Big Country have spoken and they want a Dog Park for their four-legged friends. The Abilene City Council has approved approved the park and now it is up to the public to make this project a reality. The estimated budget for the Dog Park is $155,000. This will include, but is not limited to, covered benches, water, doggie waste stations, trash cans and landscaping.

Before construction can begin, $65,000 must be raised through the donations of people around the Big Country and the target date for this project is early 2010. The Park People have organized several fundraisers to help raise the money needed for the park.

One of the fundraisers offered is the Buy a Brick Memorial. You can purchase a brick as a memorial to you pets that will be on display at the Dog Park. It costs $100 for the first two lines on the brick. Each additional line will be $25.

Another fundraiser is the donation of stations in the park including: Bench Shelters $7,000 +, Water stations $2,500 +, Doggie Stations $325+, Bench $500 +, and Trash receptacles $300+.

Finally, there will be a Dog Park fundraiser January 14, 2010 at Nelson Park, where all donations are welcomed.

You can place an order for a brick, make donations, or find more information on the project at www.theparkpeopleabilene.org.Through charitable donations and with the help of the City of Abilene, the Dog Park will be up and running very soon.
