ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team let a late lead slip away in a 73-70 loss to LeTourneau on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
HSU (2-10, 2-6 ASC) led 70-67 with 1:19 to play, before Marcel Louimeus scored on an out-of-bounds play. The Cowboys then had to take a desperation fade-away 3-pointer on its next possession as the shot clock was expiring.
Jace Williamson then missed a 3-pointer for LeTourneau with 4.9 seconds to play, but Louimeus was right there for the offensive board. He was fouled and the 28 percent free throw shooter going into the game calmly swished both free throws to give the Yellow Jackets the lead at 71-70.
The Cowboys then turned the ball over on the in-bounds play and LeTourneau hit two more free throws to seal the victory.
HSU had a 37-26 with 17:28 to play, but LeTourneau came right back with a quick 11-0 run to tie the game at 37 with 15:17 to play. The game went back and forth LeTourneau led 50-49 when the Cowboys went on a 12-1 run from the 9:28 mark to the 7:19 mark to make it 62-51. Carlos Singer had two 3-pointers, Aaron Thornton a 3-point play and MyKale Hall hit a 3-pointer in the run.
The veteran Yellow Jackets came right back and immediately cut the Cowboy lead to 64-62 and it was a battle over the final three minutes.
Singer tied his career-best with 27 points and no other Cowboy was in double figures, but eight other players scored four or more points.
JJ Rockmore led LeTourneau (7-5, 6-2 ASC) with 27 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes of action. Louimes chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Thursday night at Schreiner.

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team evened its season record at 6-6 with a 79-58 win over LeTourneau on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls dominated the game on inside as they outrebounded LeTourneau 51-33 and outscored the Lady Jackets 43-10 in the paint.
LeTourneau held tough in the first half as the Cowgirls led just 26-21 with 5:56 to play in the half. HSU closed the half on a 14-4 run that gave HSU a 40-25 lead at the break. Jasmine Lewis had eight of her career-best 19 points in that run.
HSU opened up the lead in the second half with a 15-2 run in the middle of the half to push the lead to 64-35 with 10:30 to play. From then on, HSU never led by less than 20 points and the Cowgirls emptied the bench.
Lewis led the Cowgirls with 19 points and Becky Taylor had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kara Looten had a career-best 12 points and added seven rebounds in the Cowgirl win. Colleen Redmond led LeTourneau with 14 points.
The Cowgirls are now 6-6 on the year and 3-5 in ASC action. LeTourneau fell to 3-9 overall and 3-5 in league play. HSU will play at Texas Lutheran and Schreiner next weekend in the start of ASC West action.
