The inmate, Duwayne Keith Pardue, 40, was on work detail at a county storage barn in Buffalo Gap escaped from custody at 1 p.m. Tuesday. He took off in a Taylor County vehicle wearing his orange work suit.
The TSCO passed information to the Texas Rangers about Pardue's relatives who live in Robert Lee, and the Texas Rangers then shared the tip with the CCSO, Sgt. John Cummins said.
Pardue will be brought back to Taylor County on an arrest warrant charging him with escape.
Deputies recovered the truck he allegedly stole on Tuesday evening, along with the jump suit and other personal items. The maroon Chevy pickup had Taylor County decals on the doors. A worker at the Precinct 3 Barn where the truck was taken told us the vehicle was recovered near Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Pardue was in jail accused of breaking into several homes and cars, taking cash, checks and credit cards, and using them to buy cigarettes and beer at convenience stores. His charges included forgery, debit card abuse, failure to identify, no
insurance, driving without a valid license, and driving without a valid
license plate.
Last week he asked a judge to reduce his $51,750 bond, which was denied.
